Sanskrit (also spelled Sanscrit) is an Indo-Aryan language and one of India’s official languages. It is also a classical literary and liturgical language of India.
Sanskrit is written in the Devanagari script. Although it is primarily used by scholars, Sanskrit is undergoing a literary revival. It is currently being used as a language for original literary works.
The Christian Bible was translated into Sanskrit in 1822.
There are approximately 200,000 second-language Sanskrit speakers worldwide.
