Oriya Language
Oriya belongs to the eastern group of the Indo-Aryan languages. It is spoken predominantly in the Indian state of Orissa. Oriya is among 14 regional languages recognized by the constitution of India.
Oriya descends from the Ardhamagadhi Prakrit, which was spoken in the ancient kingdom of Magadha. The literary form of Oriya borrows heavily from Sanskrit.
In total, there are approximately 31 million Oriya speakers.
