Belarussian Language

Belarusian (also spelled Belarusan, older spellings: Belorussian and Byelorussian) is an East Slavic language.  Historically, Belarusian is the native language of the majority of the Belarusian people.

Due to many government policies favoring the Russian language during the 20th century, Russian is more widely used in Belarus public life than Belarusian

Standard Belarusian is based on Belarusian’s central dialects.  The Belarusian vocabulary contains several Polish words and is written in a form of the Cyrillic alphabet.
