Yoruba

Our professional linguists include native Yoruba speakers who are experienced in the nuances of the language and the requirements of effective translation and interpreting.

Yoruba Language

Yoruba is spoken by more than 20 million people in the southwest region of Nigeria.  It is also spoken in parts of Benin and Togo.

Yoruba has several dialects, but currently, only one is used for written and literary purposes.  This developed in 1884 when Bishop Samuel Crowther translated the Bible into Yoruba.  Since then, a standard written Yoruba has been accepted across all dialects.

A substantial body of literature exists in the Yoruba language, including newspapers, books, and pamphlets.  One of the most renowned Yoruba literary figures is Amos Tutuola, whose writings have been translated into numerous languages.
