Vietnamese Language

Vietnamese is the official language of Vietnam. It is spoken by more than 70 million people.

Vietnamese is a member of the Viet-Muong subbranch of the Vietic branch. The Vietic branch is part of the Mon-Khmer language family, which is part of the Austro-Asiatic stock.

Most Vietnamese dialects are about as different from one another as the dialects of American English, with the exception of a rural Vietnamese dialect group spoken between Hue and Vinh.
