Norwegian LanguageNorwegian (Norwegian Norsk) is a North Germanic Language which belongs to the West Scandinavian branch. Norwegian has two standardized forms— Dano-Norwegian (Bokmål, or Riksmål) and New Norwegian (Nynorsk). Dano-Norwegian originates from the written form of Danish, which was first introduced during the union of Denmark and Norway (1380-1814). New Norwegian was developed as a written language in the 19th century by language scholar Ivar Aasen, who intended to carry on the tradition of Old Norse. Dano-Norwegian is more widely spoken, however, the two languages are mutually intelligible. Efforts have been made to combine the two languages into one national language, Samnorsk. So far, such efforts have met with fierce opposition. Norwegian Translation and InterpretingALS provides services in Norwegian translation and interpretation in all media.
