Malagasy

Our professional linguists include native Malagasy speakers who are experienced in the nuances of the language and the requirements of effective translation and interpreting.

Malagasy Language

Malagasy is a language cluster spoken in Madagascar and neighboring islands.  Malagasy belongs to the Austronesian (Malayo-Polynesian) family of languages.

The dialects of Malagasy are closely related, having only formed in the past 2,000 years after Madagascar was claimed by an Indonesian people.

The Malagasy dialects contain loanwords from Arab, Bantu, English, French, and Swahili.

The Merina dialect, written in the Roman alphabet, has been Madagascar’s official language since 1820.
