Luxemburgian Language
Luxemburgian (also called Luxembourgish, Letzeburgisch, Letzebuergesch, or Luxembourgeois) is a German dialect spoken exclusively in Luxembourg. Luxemburgian is a Moselle-Franconian dialect of the West Middle German group.
Throughout the ages, the Luxemburgian language has borrowed heavily from French.
Luxemburgian is spoken by every social class in Luxembourg. Luxembourg’s population is largely bilingual or trilingual; most people speak Luxemburgian and either French or German, or all three. Luxemburgian is primarily used as a spoken language, French is used for governmental purposes, and German is generally the language of periodicals. All three languages are taught in Luxembourg’s schools.
