Ibo Language

Igbo (also called Ibo) is a language cluster belonging to the Benue-Congo branch of the Niger-Congo family. It is primarily spoken by the Igbo people of southeastern Nigeria.

Igbo has numerous dialects. In the 20th century, a standard literary form of Igbo was created, which was based on the Owerri and Umuahia dialects. Internationally renowned Igbo writers, such as Chinua Achebe and Cyprian Ekwensi, contribute to the ever-expanding Igbo body of literature.

There are approximately 20 million Igbo speakers in southeast Nigeria.
