Estonian

Our professional linguists include native Estonian speakers who are experienced in the nuances of the language and the requirements of effective translation and interpreting.

Estonian Language

Estonian (Eesti) is spoken in Estonia and in scattered communities in neighboring areas.  It belongs to the Baltic-Finnic branch of the Finno-Ugric group within the Uralic language family.

Estonian has two major dialects, northern and southern.  The Estonian literary language is based on the northern dialect.

Of all the Baltic-Finnic languages, Estonian is most closely related to Finnish, Ingrian, Karelian, Livonian, Veps, and Votic.  Estonian has the Baltic-Finnic characteristic of consonant gradation, but no longer has the prominent feature of vowel harmony.

The Estonian vocabulary contains several German loanwords.
