Catalan Language

Catalan (Catalá) is a Romance language. 

It is spoken in eastern and northeastern Spain, primarily in Catalonia and Valencia.  Speakers can also be found in the Rousillon region of France, in Andorra, and in the Balearic Isles.

Modern Catalan contains two main dialect groups: Occidental, which includes the subcategories Valencian and West Catalan, and Oriental, with the subcategories Balearic, East Catalan, and Roussillonnais.  Apart from the slight differences in conjugation, pronunciation, and vocabulary, these dialects are mutually intelligible.  Most differences between dialects are not reflected in written Catalan.
