Aramaic Language

The Aramaic language is a group of Semitic languages that dates back 3,000 years.  It belongs to the Afro-Asiatic language family.  It is the main language of the Talmud, and the original language of much of the biblical books of Daniel and Ezra.  Aramaic is also believed to have been Jesus Christ’s native language.

Today, Aramaic is spoken in various communities in the countries of Armenia, Azerbaijan, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Palestinian territories, Georgia, Lebanon, Russia, Syria, and Turkey.  The total number of speakers worldwide is approximately 450,000
