Afrikaans

Our professional linguists include native Afrikaans speakers who are experienced in the nuances of the language and the requirements of effective translation and interpreting.

Afrikaans Language

Afrikaans is a Low Franconian language.  It is a member of the West Germanic group of the Germanic subfamily of the Indo-European languages. Though derived from Dutch, Afrikaans is considered an independent language; it is neither a Dutch dialect nor variant.

The language of Afrikaans is spoken by approximately 8 million people in the Republic of South Africa, and close to 1.5 million people in Namibia.  There are also speakers in Angola, Botswana, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

In South Africa, it is the main language of two ethnic groups: the Afrikaners and the Coloureds (kleurlinge/bruinmense).
