Translation and interpreting lend themselves to mistakes — that’s why it’s best to let professionals handle these matters, as they know how to catch errors that can give you (and your company) some unwanted press.
On the other hand, these mistakes are excellent fodder for the fifth annual Jelly Donut Awards!
The Jelly Donut Awards pay tribute to the most memorable translation, interpreting and localization gaffes made each year. The awards are so-named in remembrance of one of the most infamous language slip-ups of the 20th century: President John F. Kennedy’s pronouncement “Ich bin ein Berliner,” or “I am a jelly donut.” (Yes, we know that this wasn’t really a mistake, but it’s a fun misconception nonetheless.)
